Anne Marie's Story

Back in 72' my dad was transferred to Kokomo by General Motors, and I had the time of my life living and "growin' up" in with my new friends at Maplecrest Middle School and Haworth High School. The subdivision we lived in (Bagley) was near Haworth and was "Little Milwaukee" - my best friend Laura Stivers (Brumbaugh) and her family- Steve and Sue Stivers (also students at Haworth) - along with many others from up North as well new friends from Kokomo enjoyed the "funky transition" of life in the 70's together. I moved to Kokomo and back to Milwaukee late in 1978 during pivotal times in a teenager's life, and the time spent in Kokomo were the best years of my life! When my dad got transferred back to Milwaukee in my Junior year at Haworth, I wasn't happy that I couldn't hang and live with Laura's family and graduate with everyone from the class of 79.' So I moved back, graduated from Franklin High School in Southeastern Wisconsin and then had a couple of years of discovery. I went to modeling school, worked for an insurance company for a couple of years and transitioned into the field of Optometry in a retail environment in Milwaukee where I made so many friends that I adore to this day. During that time I married to the "Great White Hunter" Randy Adams in 1988, moved to the "metropolis" of Watertown, Wi. and had a bunch of fun enjoying the life of living in a small town - a BIG adjustment after living in the city. After 20 years of getting a "mall tan" and commuting an hour each way, I took some time off to explore my passion - the wonderful world of the culinary arts and enrolled in a local community college to get my degree and pursue ...Expand for more
a career being a personal chef. In the meantime, as I moved through that experience, I had always been drawn to a garden center in a itty bitty town on the way home to Watertown from my job in Milwaukee to enjoy beauty and solace in the beautiful countryside of Ixonia (the only town in the world with that name - pinky swear by the way) to deflate after many stressful days. I popped in one day to talk to the owner, Mark Ebert, with whom I have had the good fortune to partner with as a marketing consultant since March of 1999. My husband and I now live a 1/2 mile from Ebert's Greenhouse Village, and I have cherished the sunrises and sunsets in Ixonia since 2016. We love living here - the beautiful vistas from atop the hill where we live are amazing and different each day. It's truly a blessing to have the good fortune to live here and be 1 - 1/2 minutes away from work - a big stretch from the commute from Watertown to Milwaukee. Although preparing much appreciated meals for many is still something I love to do. The green industry has been very good to me and I work for a family I will cherish for the rest of my life. If I wasn't married, I'd be the "crazy dog lady" who lives on the hill with 15 dogs and would adopt every rescue within a 20 mile radius of my home or more. (dogs, I mean) Through the miracle of Facebook, I have have been able to to re-connect with the sweeties who were so influential in shaping who I am today. I know I didn't graduate officially with you all, but I look forward to re-connecting with you and learning about how life has treated you when I "barge in" on the class reunion in August.. Smooches and God Bless!
